The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Executive Committee has directed the technical crew of the Super Falcons to step down with immediate effect following the team’s disappointing 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign and failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The federation announced the decision on Monday, August 17, 2026, in a brief statement shared on its official social media platforms.
The directive brings the current technical arrangement of Nigeria’s senior women’s national team to an end, following what has been described as a major setback for the Super Falcons, who will miss the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The NFF has yet to clarify whether the directive applies to every member of the technical crew or if some officials may be retained in other capacities. The federation has also not announced an interim coaching arrangement or named a replacement.
The Super Falcons are expected to begin their qualification campaign for the 2028 Olympic Games in October 2026, with Comoros listed as their expected opponent.
The latest development is expected to prompt further changes within the team as the NFF considers its next steps. The federation is also expected to provide more details on the reasons for the decision, the composition of an interim technical team and its plans for rebuilding the Super Falcons ahead of their next major assignments.
