Tension has gripped residents of Ilesa, Osun State, following an alleged attack by suspected unknown gunmen on supporters of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the Imo and Igbogi areas of Ilesa East Local Government Area.

The attack, which reportedly occurred ahead of the party’s final campaign rally, allegedly claimed the lives of about three people identified as Tope, Anibon and one other, while several others were said to have sustained critical injuries.

According to sources, the APC’s final campaign rally, scheduled for 8am, was suspended following reports that some party supporters had been killed in the area.

It was gathered that the suspected attackers, who were reportedly armed with pump-action rifles, stormed the area and opened fire on the APC supporters, triggering panic among residents and forcing people to flee the scene.

As of the time of filing this report, details of the incident remained sketchy as the circumstances surrounding the attack, had yet to be officially confirmed by the relevant authorities.

With about four days to the gubernatorial election in the state, residents are expressing concerns over their safety before, during and after the election.
