Dokkal Khairu Football Club have written their name into Osun football history, edging past fierce rivals Ejigbo City Football Club 1–0 to lift the 2026 Osun President Federation Cup.
The intense contested final, played on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at the main bowl of Oduduwa College in Ile-Ife, drew a large and vibrant crowd that witnessed a tense and tactical encounter.
The opening half offered plenty of intensity but little in terms of clear-cut chances. Both sides battled for control in midfield, cancelling each other out for long stretches. Ejigbo City FC showed early attacking intent, fashioning a few half-chances on the break, but Dokkal Khairu’s disciplined defence held firm. Despite the end-to-end tempo, neither side could find the breakthrough before the interval.
The game came alive in the second half as both teams pushed forward in search of the decisive goal. Clear opportunities went begging at both ends, with Ejigbo City particularly wasteful in front of goal, missing from close range to the frustration of their supporters. Dokkal Khairu, meanwhile, injected fresh energy into their attack, gradually increasing the pressure.
The decisive moment arrived in the 74th minute when a goal-bound effort from Dokkal Khairu struck the arm of an Ejigbo City defender inside the box. The referee pointed to the spot without hesitation. Daud Adeosun stepped up and calmly converted the penalty, sparking wild celebrations among the Dokkial Khairu faithful.
Ejigbo City FC pressed for an equaliser in the closing stages, but their efforts proved futile as Dokkal Khairu held on to secure a historic victory.
Speaking after the match, Ejigbo City head coach Akeem Gbadegesin, popularly known as “Egun,” lamented his team’s lack of clinical finishing, describing it as their “greatest undoing.” In contrast, Dokkal Khairu coach Dabiri Favor praised his players’ resilience and mental strength, noting that such qualities define champions in crucial moments.
The final concluded on a colourful note with the presentation of trophies and medals. The Osun FA Chairman commended both teams for their performance and urged greater investment in sports infrastructure across the state, in the presence of government dignitaries.
With the victory, Dokkal Khairu FC will represent Osun State at the national stage of the President Federation Cup, alongside finalists Ejigbo City FC.
