Gernot Rohr, the German coach who led Benin to a stunning 2-1 victory over Nigeria in a FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifier last June, is confident of repeating the feat in the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Both teams have been drawn in Group D alongside Libya and Rwanda. While Benin will host Libya on Matchday 2, Nigeria will travel to Kigali to face Rwanda.
With Nigeria still searching for a permanent coach following the departure of Finidi George, Rohr, who switched allegiance from Nigeria to Benin, is particularly excited about facing his former team at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on September 7.
The German tactician, who celebrated his 71st birthday shortly before the historic win over Nigeria last June, believes that Benin can once again upset the Super Eagles, emphasizing the strength of his squad regardless of individual reputations.
