The 26-year-old Italian international has been seeking a new club after falling out of favor at PSG, despite playing a key role in the club’s Champions League triumph last season.

With PSG bringing in 23-year-old Lucas Chevalier from Lille this summer, head coach Luis Enrique has made it clear that the young Frenchman will be his first-choice goalkeeper for the 2025/26 campaign. Donnarumma, therefore, became surplus to requirements in Paris.

City had signed Burnley’s James Trafford earlier in the window, and the 21-year-old started the club’s first three Premier League matches of the season. However, his performances have reportedly failed to convince manager Pep Guardiola, prompting the late move for Donnarumma.

The deal is expected to bring added competition in City’s goalkeeping hierarchy as they look to defend their Premier League title and mount another strong Champions League campaign.
