The agreement was announced in a statement by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, as part of the ongoing Africa-China Cooperation Summit ,#FOCAC2024, in Beijing, where President Bola Tinubu is leading the Nigerian delegation on a state visit to China.
According to the Governor, the project, is aimed at generating about 50 megawatts of cleaner and more affordable electricity, will see the installation of solar power systems at the Lagos State University of Science and Technology, Lagos State University of Education, and Lagos State College of Medicine.
He added that the initiative is expected to significantly reduce the institutions’ reliance on grid electricity and fossil fuels, thus contributing to environmental sustainability.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, who signed the MoU, emphasised that this initiative underscores Lagos State’s commitment to incorporating sustainable energy solutions as a cornerstone of its economic development strategy.
