He made the statement on National Television, he pointed to a structural issue within the industry, where established artistes are often pushed aside once they’ve reached certain career milestones.
“Once you reach a certain level, it’s like they say, ‘Go to that corner, we’re done with you,’” DJ Neptune explained. “It’s a structural problem. Unlike in the West, where veteran artistes continue to thrive alongside newcomers, here in Nigeria, the narrative is different. We need to address these issues for our industry to grow.”
The DJ pointed to the contrast between the Nigerian and Western music industries, where longstanding artistes are able to maintain relevance by adapting to changes in the industry. He believes that veterans in Nigeria should be afforded the same opportunities for continued success as their international counterparts.

DJ Neptune also shared his own approach to staying relevant in a rapidly changing industry, emphasizing the importance of reinvention. “Although I don’t plan to do this forever when the time comes to step back, I will. But what I’ve learned over the years is the importance of reinvention. You have to adapt to the changes around you if you want to stay relevant,” he stated.
