The senator made the allegation on a live broadcast on her social media page, raising concerns over what she called an unlawful action taken without legal justification.

Akpoti-Uduaghan questioned the authorities in the video, stating, “Have I committed any offence? Why are you withholding my passport?” She revealed that the incident occurred shortly after celebrating the second anniversary of her tenure in the Senate.

“I decided to take a week off after marking my second year in office, and now my passport has been withheld again,” she explained. This is not the first time such an incident has occurred. Akpoti-Uduaghan recalled a similar event where her passport was allegedly seized under the instruction of Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

According to her, the immigration official stated that Akpabio had directed them to stop her from traveling due to concerns over her international interviews, which they claimed tarnished the country’s image.

The senator expressed frustration that despite this, her passport continued to be withheld. She emphasized, “There is no reason why my passport should be withheld at the international airport.”

At the time of reporting, neither Senate President Akpabio nor the Nigerian Immigration Service had responded to Akpoti-Uduaghan’s accusations. The senator, visibly upset, threatened legal action against the immigration officers, asserting, “You have no right to withhold my passport or deny me exit from my country. I have committed no offence, and this must stop.”
