Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has pledged to provide scholarships for the children of people who lost their lives in incidents linked to the period leading up to the August 15 governorship election in the state.
Adeleke made the pledge on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, shortly after receiving his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, alongside his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, at the commission’s state office in Osogbo.
The governor said the scholarship programme would cover the beneficiaries’ education from secondary school through university.
According to him, the children would receive their secondary education at the high school owned by the Adeleke family, while their university education would be provided at a university also owned by the family.
Adeleke stressed that the initiative would not be funded with government money, but would be undertaken by his family as a gesture of support to the children and families affected by the election-related deaths.
The governor, who described the certificate presentation as another responsibility entrusted to his administration by the people of the state, called on other candidates who contested the election against him to put the election behind them and join hands with his administration in moving Osun forward.
He extended an olive branch to his political opponents, urging them to work with his administration in the interest of the people and the development of the state.
Adeleke also assured residents that his administration would remain focused on their welfare and the overall development of Osun State as it begins another phase of governance.
He appealed to the people of the state to continue supporting the government, promising that his administration would remain committed to delivering on its responsibilities to the people.
The governor also expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for what he described as his role in the electoral process, while praying for continued peace and progress in Nigeria and Osun State.
The Certificate of Return formally marks the Independent National Electoral Commission’s recognition of Adeleke and Adewusi as the winners of the August 15 governorship election, giving the duo a fresh mandate to continue in office.
