A District Customary Court sitting in Erin-Osun, Osun State, on Monday, May 4, 2026, dissolved the traditional marriage between Abdulsalam Abdulhamid and Abdulsalam Sakirat following a divorce petition filed by the husband.

Abdulhamid had approached the court, alleging that his wife exhibited laziness, used abusive language, and engaged in frequent quarrels, which he said created unrest in their home.

The petitioner also urged the court to direct his wife to retrieve her belongings from the house, stating that her father had already taken her away from the matrimonial home.

On the issue of custody, Abdulhamid requested that their two children, two-year-old Kamaldeen and two-month-old Alimat, remain with their mother. He initially proposed a monthly maintenance allowance of ₦10,000 but later increased it to ₦20,000.

When asked about his means of livelihood, Abdulhamid told the court that he is an Islamic cleric who runs an Arabic school.

In his ruling, the presiding judge, K. B. Adeyinka, granted the dissolution of the marriage after both parties agreed to the revised maintenance sum. The court awarded custody of the children to the mother and ordered the father to pay ₦20,000 monthly for their upkeep.

The judge further directed that Abdulhamid would be responsible for the children’s medical expenses and education when due. The maintenance allowance, the court added, would be subject to periodic review.
