Bayern Munich made a strong recovery from their midweek Champions League defeat to Arsenal, securing a 3-1 comeback win against St. Pauli at home on Saturday.
Luis Díaz delivered the decisive blow in stoppage time, heading home a cross from Harry Kane to put Bayern ahead in the 93rd minute. This marked a crucial response for Bayern, who had suffered their first loss of the season just days earlier in London.
Díaz, who was suspended for the Arsenal defeat, also played a key role earlier in the match, providing the assist for Raphael Guerreiro’s equalizer just before halftime. St. Pauli had taken an early lead through Andreas Hountondji, who capitalized on a defensive mistake from Bayern’s Joshua Kimmich to score in the 6th minute.
Four minutes after Díaz’s goal, Chelsea loanee Nicolas Jackson sealed the win with a second, putting Bayern 3-1 up with the final kick of the match. This victory ensured that Bayern would remain eight points clear at the top of the Bundesliga, following a 0-0 draw between RB Leipzig and Borussia Mönchengladbach on Friday.
Veteran Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer praised his team’s resilience after the match. “We kept pushing after going behind, and although we were unlucky to hit the post three times, the late goals brought us much-needed relief,” Neuer said.
Despite their tough start, St. Pauli, who were bottom of the table before the match, stunned Bayern with their early goal. Hountondji had capitalized on a sloppy pass from Kimmich, before shrugging off Kim Min-jae to score past Neuer at the near post.

Bayern then hit the woodwork twice in quick succession, with Lennart Karl and Tom Bischof both narrowly missing the target. However, the equalizer came just before the break, when Kim Min-jae redeemed himself by delivering a precise pass to Díaz, who, despite being fouled, managed to square the ball to Guerreiro for a powerful finish.
With just under 10 minutes remaining, Kane also hit the post, but the England striker was instrumental in Bayern’s late winner, floating a ball into the box for Díaz to convert. Jackson’s goal in stoppage time added extra gloss to the result, as Bayern avoided their second league drop of the season.
Elsewhere in the Bundesliga, Heidenheim scored twice in injury time to secure a 2-1 victory over Union Berlin, lifting themselves off the bottom of the table. A late equalizer from Germany starlet Said El Mala helped promoted Cologne to a 1-1 draw at Werder Bremen.
Hoffenheim climbed to fourth place with a dominant 3-0 home win over Augsburg, who have now gone winless since early October.
