Comedian Emmanuel Ejekwu, known as Sabinus, says his father did not support his move into comedy and once regretted paying for his education.
In an interview with VJ Adams, Sabinus said his father wanted him to become a lawyer. After failing to gain admission to study law, he chose Linguistics and Communication Studies at the University of Port Harcourt, where he discovered skit making.
He said he kept his comedy work secret from his father during and after school because money was not coming in yet.
According to him, his father became angry when he later saw his pictures on comedy show posters and called comedy a “stupid business.”
Sabinus added that his father eventually accepted his career after he began earning from comedy and started supporting the family.
