In his acceptance speech in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, Turaki acknowledged the weight of the responsibility placed on him but expressed confidence in the party’s leadership structure and its future direction.

“The mandate you’ve given us is a solemn one. We know it’s not an easy task. Our party stands at a crossroads, but we are ready for the challenge. We will carry this cross and deliver it to the Nigerian people,” Turaki stated, addressing party members and supporters.

The former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, also revealed that the new executive would soon unveil its operational blueprint to guide the party’s leadership and agenda.

“Very soon, we will introduce our guiding principles and the operational framework to achieve them. We are committed to hitting the ground running from day one,” he said.

Reaffirming his commitment to the PDP’s democratic values, Turaki emphasized that he would not take the mandate for granted. “The PDP is a party rooted in the will of the people. It is the only party that has maintained its name and its essence through the years because we are the party of the Nigerian people,” he continued. “I assure you, there will be no more impunity.”

Turaki’s election as PDP Chairman followed a vote at the party’s national convention, where delegates from 17 states gathered to choose new national officers. Turaki secured 1,516 votes, defeating his closest rival, Senator Yakubu Danmarke, who garnered 275 votes.

The convention also saw the emergence of Taofeek Arapaja, the former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, as the party’s new National Secretary.
