The swift intervention of officers from the Sakura Division led to the arrest of suspects attempting to invade a residence in the Araromi community, located off the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode Expressway.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, the police received a distress call from the Chairman of the Okearedi Community Development Council, CDC, about suspicious activities involving suspected robbers. The alert prompted a rapid response by local officers.
The statement reads, “At approximately 1:45 a.m. on November 12, a distress call was received from the CDC Chairman of Okearedi, reporting that five armed hoodlums were attempting to forcibly enter a residence in the community.”
Upon the arrival of the police, the suspects fled the scene, abandoning their vehicle, a black Lexus GS 350 with the registration number OGUN TTD 452 TT—at the entrance of the community. A search of the vehicle uncovered fireworks, believed to have been intended as a distraction during the robbery attempt.
“The hoodlums abandoned their operational vehicle and fled in different directions when they saw the police patrol team. The vehicle was later recovered, and fireworks (commonly known as ‘knockouts’) were found inside, likely intended to divert attention or create confusion during the robbery,” the statement continued.
Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, praised the officers for their prompt and professional response to the distress call. He also reassured the public that the command is intensifying its efforts to secure the state, particularly during the end-of-year period.

The commissioner urged members of the public to remain vigilant, especially when returning home late at night, and advised that residents take simple precautions such as ensuring that their homes and neighborhoods are well-lit.
The Ogun State Police Command also encouraged residents to stay informed by following its official social media channels for real-time security updates and alerts.
