Fayose made the statement on National Television. According to him, the party’s internal issues have deepened, particularly following recent court rulings and escalating divisions within its ranks.
The former governor expressed concern over the PDP’s ongoing leadership battle, which has left the opposition party fractured. He specifically criticized the recent ruling by an Oyo State High Court concerning the party’s leadership, calling it a case of “judicial overreach.”
“I have to tell you the hard truth,” Fayose said. “Nobody in this country has ever confronted me about things I’ve said years ago and questioned me for repeating them. The PDP is in trouble. It’s gone bad. It’s in a comatose state.”
He also raised legal concerns, questioning the jurisdiction of the Oyo State High Court. “When has a state high court become an appellate court for a federal high court? The Oyo State High Court does not have jurisdiction,” he argued, referring to the court’s involvement in a matter previously ruled on by a Federal High Court.
Fayose warned that such court decisions could set a dangerous precedent for electoral disputes. He added, “If you open the doors, INEC will start taking all judgments from state high courts. The judge went ahead and compromised the matter, granting an ex parte order.”

Fayose attributed the crisis within the PDP to a failure of leadership at the highest levels. He compared the party’s situation to a decaying fish, noting, “When fish decays from the body, you can salvage it. But when the fish decays from the head, you cannot salvage it. Right now, the PDP has decayed from the head.”
Despite the turmoil, Fayose emphasized that he would not leave the party, making it clear that his statements were not meant to undermine the PDP but to reflect its current state.
As the legal battles continue and defections loom, the PDP’s future remains uncertain, with many questioning whether the party can recover from its internal crisis.
