The Lead Bishop of Worldwide Anglican Church in Nigeria, Bishop Seun Adeoye, has asked Governor Ademola Adeleke to openly declare his religion to the citizens of Osun State. Adeoye made the call while speaking on ‘Gbagede Oro’, a Yoruba personality interview programme on Redio Afinju.
According to him, the Governor’s religion has been shrouded in secrecy for too long, leading to needless speculations. “It is important that he comes out openly to clear the air on whether he is a Christian, or a Muslim”, Adeoye said.
It will be recalled that on Wednesday, 5th November 2025, some concerned Muslim Stakeholders and the League of Alfas in Osun had, at a press conference in Osogbo, had claimed that “the current administration in Osun is more or less a Christian-Christian arrangement. The Governor himself who once bore a Muslim name no longer identifies with that name in his recent party certificate. The Deputy Governor is a known Christian, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly is a Christian, and the Head of Service is a Christian.”
Shortly after the press conference by the Muslim Stakeholders, the Leadership of three Christian groups in the State – the Worldwide Anglican Church in Nigeria, the World Bishops Council (Africa Chapter), and the Gospel Pushers Association (GPA) – said in another press statement that “by the time His Excellency Governor Adeleke will be completing his tenure in November 2026, they (Muslims) would have spent 20 years as compared to just seven (7) years spent by Prince Oyinlola, a Christian”, inferring that Governor Adeleke is a Muslim.
Answering questions on ‘Gbagede Oro’, Bishop Seun Adeoye stated that the only way the Governor can end the ambiguity is to publicly declare his religion instead of oscillating between Christianity and Islam as he has been doing.
Adeoye further stated that the Christian community in Osun State deserves to present the next Governor of Osun State from 2026, to balance the religion equation in the State.
