The initiative, to be managed by the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA), will introduce structured, tech-driven parking zones in locations such as Ikoyi, Victoria Island, Ikeja, and Lekki. Signage indicating hourly rates will be displayed, with restrictions limiting parking in some areas to a maximum of three hours.
LASPA’s General Manager, Adebisi Adelabu, said the system would ensure responsible parking, enhance mobility, and support broader traffic management reforms. She added that the project would also aid data collection and enforcement through a digital “pay-by-plate” model, where drivers can be billed electronically for violations.
“This is not just about revenue, it’s about regulation and social change. We want Lagosians to plan their trips with parking in mind and avoid turning public streets into private garages,” she said.
The state’s Commissioner for Transportation said unregulated parking remains a major contributor to gridlock and that modern parking infrastructure is critical to solving Lagos’ traffic crisis.
