The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the Wazirin Sokoto and Chairman of the Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Professor Sambo Junaidu.
According to the statement, the declaration followed reports from the National Moon Sighting Committee, which confirmed that no sighting of the new crescent was received from moon sighting committees across the country on Saturday, August 23, 2025, corresponding to 29th Safar 1447AH.
“Sunday, August 24, 2025, will therefore be the 30th day of Safar, making Monday, August 25, the first day of Rabi’ul Awwal 1447AH,” Professor Junaidu explained.
The Sultan accepted the committee’s report and officially proclaimed the commencement of the new Islamic month.
