The governor disclosed this in a statement issued by his media aide in Ado-Ekiti, alleging that over 150 social media users, including national influencers, have been paid in foreign currency to launch a coordinated online smear campaign against him.
According to the statement, the planned attack includes the use of forged documents and AI-generated graphics to discredit the governor and key members of the administration.
Oyebanji claimed that elements within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), who are allegedly seeking to create unrest and score cheap political points, orchestrated the plot.
“The sponsors of this grand plot, sadly, are members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), who are bent on heating up the polity in a bid to make a cheap political point, He said.
The aide referenced a recent failed social media campaign against the President, which used a federal road in Ekiti as a basis for criticism. He said those behind that effort have now redirected their focus toward the state government.
The governor’s office said it decided to alert the public to prevent tension and possible breaches of peace, adding that this new plot would not be treated lightly. Security agencies and the public were urged to remain vigilant.
While reaffirming the government’s openness to constructive criticism and public scrutiny, the statement advised all aspirants to keep their campaigns issue-based and avoid personal or violent attacks.
