The false reports began after a Facebook user, Ifeoma Chigbo, posted a video suggesting that the celebrated actor and filmmaker had passed away. Another unverified post went further, alleging that Nuhu died in a fatal car accident.

In a statement issued by the NFC’s Director of Public Affairs, Brian Etuk, described the claims as “false and malicious,” affirming that Nuhu is “alive, well, and fully carrying out his responsibilities.”

“The attention of the Nigerian Film Corporation, NFC, has been drawn to the purported passing of Ali Nuhu, its current Managing Director/Chief Executive, being orchestrated within the social media space; and wishes to officially and unambiguously inform the general public that the reports, including videos laced with the pictures of Ali Nuhu, are not only malicious and injurious but false in their entirety,” the statement read.

The NFC further emphasized that Nuhu remains active in his role, having been appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on February 12, 2024.

The corporation also cautioned those behind the spread of the misinformation, warning of serious consequences. “Appropriate measures have been initiated to arrest this ugly, baleful, and unsatisfactory conduct and trend,” it added.

The NFC expressed gratitude to the public and stakeholders for their concern, assuring that its Managing Director is safe and continues to discharge his duties.
