The District Customary Court of Appeal sitting in Erin-Osun, Osun State, has dissolved the marriage between Alhaji Azeez Ige and Alhaja Fatimah Alimi following a divorce petition filed by the husband.

Delivering judgment on Monday, June 15, 2026, the court granted the dissolution of the union after hearing submissions from both parties.

In his petition, Alhaji Ige told the court that the marriage had become irretrievably broken, alleging persistent conflicts and threats to his life. He stated that the relationship, which had lasted for about 25 years, was no longer peaceful and could not continue under the current circumstances.

The complainant further informed the court that despite not being the respondent’s first husband, efforts to salvage the marriage had proved unsuccessful, making reconciliation impossible. He therefore urged the court to formally dissolve the union and direct the respondent to remove her remaining belongings from his residence.

Responding to the petition, Alhaja Alimi agreed that the marriage should be legally terminated. She, however, informed the court that she had already moved her personal belongings out of the house before their appearance in court.

In his ruling, the Presiding Judge, K.B. Adeyinka, dissolved the marriage between the two parties and granted them legal separation. The court also ruled that the respondent would not be required to refund the dowry, while affirming her right to retain all her personal belongings.
