Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has praised the pace and quality of work on the ongoing remodelling of the Osogbo Stadium, revealing that the facility’s seating capacity will increase from 4,000 to 15,000 upon completion.
The upgrade is part of the state government’s plan to transform the stadium into a modern sporting complex capable of hosting major events and driving sports development across Osun.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued via the state government’s official X handle and signed by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.
Speaking after an early morning project review session, which began last week, Adeleke said the expanded capacity would position Osun to attract both local and international sporting events.
“Upon completion, Osun will be qualified to host local and international events. Sports development will take a new turn, and our young population will have a strong platform to nurture their talents,” the governor said.

He also expressed satisfaction with the collaboration between foreign technical partners and local contractors, stressing the importance of meeting global standards, particularly those required by FIFA, to secure certification.
Adeleke further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening sports institutions in the state, including making the Osun Sports Trust Fund and the Osun State Sports Commission fully operational.
“In remodelling the stadium, we must meet global standards. I am happy at the involvement of local and international experts to ensure we meet FIFA and all associated standards. This is the way to go to finally integrate Osun into the mainstream of sports development in the country,” he added.
The governor noted that efforts are ongoing to meet legal requirements and establish the necessary policy framework to activate the Sports Trust Fund, while also putting structures in place to revitalise the state’s sports sector.
Reiterating his vision, Adeleke said his administration aims to build a sports sector defined by modern facilities, a skilled workforce, and expanded opportunities for athletes across the state.
He commended the contractors for their commitment to the project and also praised the Deputy Governor, Kola Adewusi, who doubles as Commissioner for Sports, for his dedication to ensuring the timely completion of the stadium upgrade.
