One person was killed and several others injured when armed men attacked a church in Lili, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the incident, saying part of the church was burned and property destroyed.

The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, condemned the attack, calling it “heinous and abominable.”

He said the criminals targeted innocent worshippers and vowed that officers would pursue those responsible.

The police have increased surveillance, deployed a Joint Security Team, and urged residents to remain calm and provide useful information.

Later the same day, four people were killed in a cult-related shooting at Afor Nawfia Market on the Onitsha–Awka Old Road.

Police said the attackers whose identities are still unknown arrived in a black Lexus Jeep, opened fire, and fled before officers arrived.

Days earlier, the Special Anti-Cult Squad had arrested two suspects after receiving intelligence about a planned gang clash. A firearm was recovered, and the suspects are assisting investigations.

The Police Command said it is following strong leads and remains committed to stopping cultism and violent crime in the state.
