The Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command has arrested three individuals suspected of being involved in car theft in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
The arrests followed a report by a Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, officer regarding a stolen vehicle, prompting a special police team to launch an investigation.
According to the statement released by the command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the breakthrough in their ongoing efforts to tackle car theft and organized crime in the state. The operation led to the recovery of the stolen vehicle and the arrest of three suspects involved in its illicit sale.
According to Iringe-Koko, the investigation began after an FRSC officer from the Rivers State Sector Command reported the theft of a vehicle. The officer presented documents, including a sales agreement and proof of ownership, which helped the police trace the stolen car.
On November 7, 2025, at around 8:00 a.m., a joint team of operatives from the Electronic Central Motor Registry (ECMR) and the Special Operations and Intelligence Team (SOIT) successfully recovered the stolen Toyota Corolla, bearing registration number PHC 626 TX. The vehicle’s engine number is IZZ997375, and the chassis number is 2T1BR32E44C280137. The team also arrested three suspects involved in the suspicious sale of the car.

The rightful owner of the vehicle, Professor Karibo Bagshaw, confirmed that the car had been stolen from his daughter in December 2024 by their former Bolt driver. This verification helped solidify the case against the suspects.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Christian Ihuigwe, John Ebus, and Barnabas, all residents of Port Harcourt. Following their arrest, the suspects and the recovered vehicle were transferred to the Special Investigation Department for further forensic analysis, in line with directives from the Commissioner of Police.
The Rivers State Police Command is continuing its efforts to apprehend additional suspects believed to be involved in the crime. Updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
The arrested suspects are expected to face prosecution once the investigation is completed.
