According to a statement from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the incident took place when a fully loaded Mazda commercial bus with registration number LND 490 SD, while recklessly attempting to gain right of way from the Agric axis, collided with a fast-moving articulated truck bearing plate number EKY 121 YJ.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the commercial bus was vying for space along the main carriageway when it rammed into the truck. A passenger, who was sitting at the edge of the bus doorway, was thrown out on impact and tragically crushed under the truck’s rear tires, resulting in instant death.
Two other passengers, a man and a woman, sustained serious injuries and were promptly taken to Ikorodu General Hospital by the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) for urgent medical attention.
