The development was announced by fellow actor Yomi Fabiyi, who disclosed on Instagram that Baba Ijesha was released on Friday following a favourable ruling by the appeal court.

According to Fabiyi, the appellate court overturned the earlier conviction related to the sexual assault of a minor.

“You are now officially FREE AND OUT. Baba Ijesha is not just back but BETTER,” Fabiyi wrote. He added that the court cleared his colleague of allegations of having sexual contact with a minor, describing the original case as flawed.

Baba Ijesha was arraigned on June 24, 2021, on a six-count charge including indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault, attempted sexual assault by penetration, and sexual assault by penetration. On July 14, 2022, a Lagos High Court sentenced him to 16 years imprisonment, with the terms to run concurrently, effectively setting a five-year jail term.

In April 2024, the actor appealed the judgment, claiming he had been set up and was merely “acting according to a script” provided by a colleague.
