Reports indicates that four polling agents working for the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, Azuka Okwuosa, were allegedly arrested and taken away by the Chairman of Ekwusigo Local Government Area with the support of a community leader in Ozubulu.
The incident sparked protests from local youths, who accused the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA-led government of harassment and voter intimidation.
Immediate past Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Rita Maduagwu, also alleged that APGA supporters invaded her Ukpor Ward 3,009 to unleash violence on voters.
The tension spread across Nnewi and Ekwusigo LGAs, with violence also reported in several polling units, including Ward 4, Units 001, 003, and 008 in Ekwusigo, where the APC agents were allegedly whisked away.
Security operatives were deployed to restore order in the affected areas as the situation grew tense.
However, APGA has denied any involvement in the violence. The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ejiomofor Opara, dismissed the allegations, insisting that no APGA official or government representative was involved. He accused APC members of fabricating claims of violence and arrests.
