Super Eagles star and Galatasaray forward Victor Osimhen has been honoured as GQ Turkey’s Sportsman of the Year, earning recognition at a prestigious black-tie awards ceremony in Istanbul.
The annual event, hosted by the Turkish edition of GQ Magazine, celebrates outstanding achievers across sports, music, film, and other creative fields. Osimhen’s selection highlights his exceptional impact since joining Galatasaray, where he has quickly become a fan favourite.
Osimhen’s debut season in Turkey was nothing short of remarkable. The 26-year-old striker scored 37 goals and provided seven assists in 41 appearances, powering Galatasaray to both the Super Lig and Turkish Cup titles.
His performances were so influential that the club moved to sign him permanently from Napoli, smashing the Turkish transfer record with a €75 million deal.

Despite battling injuries this season, Osimhen has maintained his clinical form, netting 11 goals in 14 matches across all competitions.
On the international stage, Osimhen remains a key figure for the Super Eagles. After missing the first four games of Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, he returned to score matches, guiding the team to the play-offs.

Osimhen is expected to lead Nigeria’s frontline as the team prepares for the2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, scheduled for December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
During his acceptance speech, Osimhen expressed gratitude to the organisers, his club, and supporters worldwide.
“I want to say a big thank you to GQ. Can’t forget my Galatasaray family. This means so much to my family and me. I appreciate everyone who has supported me up to this hour. I will continue to do my best for my family, for Galatasaray, for the fans all over the world,” he said.
The ceremony also recognised several other prominent figures. Turkish actor Aras Aydın received the International Achiever of the Year award, actress Sinem Ünsal was honoured as Woman of the Year, British-Turkish singer Edis was named Music Person of the Year, and Bahtiyar Büyükduman earned the Chef of the Year title. In total, 11 awards were presented to celebrate excellence across various industries.
