According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, the crash involved a six-tyre trailer, a Honda Pilot, a Toyota Camry, and an unregistered tricycle.
According to the statement released by the Director of LASTMA’s Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofiq, revealed that the incident was caused by a mechanical failure. The trailer, which was fully loaded, suffered a brake failure, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
The trailer crashed into the tricycle, then collided with the Honda Pilot before ultimately vaulting over the median and smashing into a Toyota Camry on the opposing lane.
The Director explained that preliminary investigations by security operatives confirmed the mechanical failure of the trailer’s brakes as the cause of the accident. The trailer, descending uncontrollably, crushed the tricycle beyond recognition before hitting the other vehicles and causing widespread damage.

LASTMA personnel arrived at the scene quickly, confirming the tricycle operator’s death at the site while rescuing two other victims who were trapped in their vehicles. The injured victims were then rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
“Upon arrival, LASTMA officers confirmed the instant death of the tricycle operator. Two other severely trapped victims were rescued and immediately taken to the General Hospital, Ile-Epo, for urgent medical attention,” Taofiq stated.
Traffic was temporarily diverted through Iyana-Meran and Ajasa Command to alleviate congestion as rescue efforts took place. The damaged vehicles were later towed to the police station for further investigation.
