The transition was announced in a press release signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, today.
TASUED, established by the Ogun State Government in 2005, is recognized as Nigeria’s first specialized University of Education.
President Tinubu expressed gratitude to the Ogun State Government for inviting the Federal Government to take over one of the state’s best educational institutions, noting that this move honors the legacies of Obafemi Awolowo and Tai Solarin.
The President also acknowledged the contribution of the Awujale of Ijebuland in preventing the University’s closure in 2012, just seven years after its founding.
This transition will require minimal federal investment due to TASUED’s well-developed infrastructure and academic programs. It aligns with the Federal Government’s strategy to strengthen teacher education and enhance instructional quality nationwide.
This decision represents a significant milestone in Ogun State’s educational landscape and reinforces the Federal Government’s commitment to advancing higher education while honoring the legacies of prominent regional figures, as stated in the release.
