This follows an earlier seven-day ultimatum issued over what the unions described as unresolved welfare-related issues affecting non-academic university staff.

In a letter jointly signed by SSANU President, Muhammed Ibrahim, the unions expressed dissatisfaction with what they termed the “unjust disbursement” of earned allowances, as well as the continued non-payment of outstanding entitlements to their members.

The initial letter, dated June 18, 2025, prompted a meeting with the Minister of Education on July 4, 2025. However, the unions say that progress on their demands has remained unsatisfactory.

According to a fresh letter addressed to union chapters nationwide on Tuesday, the decision to extend the ultimatum followed a meeting with the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Abel Enitan, held on Friday, September 19, 2025.
