The incident happened on Sunday, during Los Blancos’ 3-1 victory at the Club World Cup.

This led to referee Ramon Abatti Abel activating FIFA’s anti-discrimination protocol.

During stoppage time of the match in Charlotte, Rudiger, who has come on as a substitute, approached Abel following a verbal exchange with Cabral.

The referee could be seen crossing his arms, which represents FIFA’s designated ‘No Racism Gesture’. That means the issue will be subject to further review.

Under the new anti-racism procedures introduced by FIFA in 2024, the crossed-arms gesture is the first step in a possible three-stage response to discriminatory behaviour.
