The elections come months after the Supreme Court ruled out the earlier LG polls in the oil-rich state.

According to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), the exercise is being held in the 23 local government areas of the state, adding that all materials have been distributed.

There is also a restriction of movement from 6 am to 6pm on the election day.

The exercise, which has already commenced in most parts of the state, has recorded low turnout of voters in several areas.

11: 54 am: In Ward Four, Tai Local Government, all the 21 polling units are lumped at the Koroma Campus of the Federal University of Environment and Technology.

The area is the ward of the Senator representing Rivers South-East, Barry Mpigi.

11: 15 am: The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has cast his ballot in the Rivers local government elections.

11:06 am: Samuel Oboni, councillorship candidate Ward 9,Ikwerre LGA, voting at unit 11

11: 02 am: Samuel Nwanosike, who is the Chairman of Rivers State Waste Management Agency Board and former Chairman of Ikwerre LGA, votes at Ward 9, unit 12 Ikweree LGA.

10: 47 am: The member representing Khana, Gokana Federal Constituency, Dunamene Dekor who is a PDP member has just cast his ballot in Unit 8, Ward 9 Bera, Khana Local Government.

10:33 am: Voting ongoing in Ward 13, unit 06 Aluu, Ikwerre LGA

10: 28 am: Electoral materials have left the Bori Police Area Command, Khana Local Government

9:45a.m: Voting has not commenced at Ward 3, Unit 9 in Emohua LGA. A few voters are seen checking their names on the register displayed on the wall, while a RSIEC official waits for the arrival of electoral materials.

9:32 am: Rivers LG Election: Voting has commenced across most of the Units in Ward One, Botem, Tai Local Government.

9:30 am: As of 9:30 a.m., voting is yet to commence at Ward 3, Unit 11 in Emohua LGA. Only a few voters and party agents are present, making arrangements ahead of the arrival of electoral materials.

9:30 am: Voting has commenced in Ward 1 unit 1 and other units at Abonnema AKUKU TORU LGA.
