According to reports, the incident occurred late Thursday night when a group of armed assailants stormed the community, robbing residents at gunpoint and injuring several victims. The attackers also targeted the palace of the traditional ruler, Oba Adinlewa John, in what police described as an attempted assassination. The monarch, however, narrowly escaped unharmed.
In a statement released by the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the police acted swiftly following a distress call and successfully apprehended 10 suspects believed to be involved in the attack.
“The Ondo State Police Command wishes to inform the public of the arrest of 10 suspects in connection with a violent attack on the Igoba community at about 11:30 p.m. on Thursday,” the statement read.
“Armed with firearms, knives, charms, and other dangerous weapons, the hoodlums invaded the community with the intent to wreak havoc. During the attack, one Mrs. Ogunoye Oluomo was viciously assaulted, injured, and dispossessed of her belongings. The assailants then advanced to the palace of His Royal Highness, Oba Adinlewa John, where they attempted to assassinate the monarch.”
