The news was confirmed in a statement released on Phyna’s social media page. The announcement, issued by Eko Solicitors & Advocates on behalf of the Otabor family, stated that Ruth passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at approximately 6:30 a.m.
“With a heavy heart, the family regrets to announce the passing on to glory of their daughter, sister, and mother,” the statement read.
The family also appealed for privacy during their time of grief, adding that funeral arrangements would be shared in due course.
Ruth Otabor, a graduate of Auchi Polytechnic, had been fighting for her life since the August 13 accident, which occurred near the polytechnic in Auchi, Edo State. The incident reportedly involved a truck associated with the Dangote Group.
Following the crash, Ruth underwent a leg amputation and was receiving treatment at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital.
In the weeks leading up to her death, Phyna publicly criticized the Dangote Group, accusing the company of attempting to protect those responsible and highlighting delays in medical response and support.
In response, the Dangote Group issued a statement on August 14, acknowledging the incident and expressing its willingness to cover all medical expenses and provide necessary support. Company representatives and insurance personnel were said to have visited the hospital and the scene of the accident.
