The duo faced a four-count charge of conspiracy, armed robbery, and impersonation. Witnesses testified that the men, one dressed in a police T-shirt and the other in military camouflage, carried out multiple robberies in the Idanre area. Victims recounted how they were stopped, assaulted with jack knives and fists, and robbed of cash and belongings.
A witness, Akinmodun Akinleye, said the men stole money and his phone, and forced him to buy fuel for their motorcycle. Another, a security guard, testified that the suspects beat a bus driver and stole his money, offering the guard N2,000, which he refused. A third victim, a transporter, said he was robbed of N125,000 and assaulted with a pistol and dagger.
Investigations revealed that David Friday was a serving police officer, while Innocent Victor falsely claimed to be a soldier. Both men confessed to the crimes.
Justice W.R. Olamide ruled that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and handed down the death sentence.
