In a statement issued on Wednesday, the scheme described the incident as “unfortunate and unacceptable,” stressing that there was no justification for the actions of the vigilante operatives.
“Management strongly condemns the unacceptable and dehumanising manner in which the operatives conducted their operations, irrespective of their initial justification for the purported investigation they set out to carry out at the facility where the corps members were accommodated,” NYSC’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, said.
A video of the assault, which has since gone viral, showed operatives of Operation Udo Ga-Achi, popularly known as the Agunechemba Vigilante Group, beating and stripping Elobor in Oba Community, Idemili South Local Government Area. The vigilantes accused her and other corps members of being fraudsters.
The Anambra State Government, confirmed the arrest of the operatives involved and assured the public that investigations were ongoing.
Reacting, the NYSC commended the state government’s swift action and pledged to cooperate with the Nigeria Police Force to ensure justice is served.
“This we trust will help get justice for the corps member in question and any other aggrieved party,” the statement read.
