Nigerian Army troops successfully thwarted an attack by Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, militants on the Forward Operating Base, FOB, Mairari in Borno State.

 

According to sources cited by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, the soldiers killed several terrorists and wounded others during the counter-operation. The Army also neutralized two vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices, VBIEDs, causing significant damage to the road at two separate locations.

 

The operation was led by troops from Sector 3 of the Stabilization Operation, with support from the Theatre Command Quick Reaction Force, the Nigeria Police Force’s elite tactical team, and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, CJTF.

During a subsequent search of the area, the troops discovered several terrorist bodies and recovered various items, including five motorcycles, two Android phones, AK-47 rifles, a belt with 165 rounds of PKT ammunition, five AK-47 magazines (each loaded with 30 rounds), and 59 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

 

Other items recovered included a hand grenade, combat boots, a flak jacket, plastic bottles containing engine oil, a stretcher, wristwatches, a camel bag, spinners, and a motorcycle pump.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported among the troops during the operation.
