The Ivorian beauty queen, Olivia Yacé who secured fourth runner-up and won the continental title for Africa and Oceania at Miss Universe 2025, has announced her resignation from the title.

In a heartfelt statement posted to her social media page, Yacé explained that she is stepping down to stay true to her personal values and integrity.

The decision comes after a dramatic and controversial Miss Universe finale held in Bangkok, which was marred by public disputes, allegations of rigged judging, and a viral confrontation involving the eventual winner, Miss Mexico Fátima Bosch.

Reflecting on her journey, Yacé shared, “As Côte d’Ivoire’s representative at Miss Universe 2025, I proved that I am capable of achieving greatness despite adversity. The competition tested my strength, determination, and readiness to overcome challenges.”

However, she emphasized that remaining in her position would require alignment with her core values. “To continue, I must remain true to my pillars: respect, dignity, excellence, and equal opportunity,” Yacé stated.

In her resignation, Yacé clarified that while her role as Miss Universe Africa and Oceania had been an honour, she no longer felt it allowed her to fully express herself or achieve her goals. “My mission has always been to inspire younger generations,” she continued. “I want to be a role model for young girls, encouraging them to confidently enter spaces where they may feel unwelcome and to embrace their identity proudly.”

Yacé expressed that stepping away from the title would give her the freedom to focus on defending the principles she holds dear. “I now embark on a new journey with unwavering determination to uplift and inspire,” she added.

The beauty queen also called for unity and courage among Black and African-descendant communities globally. “I call upon Black, African, Caribbean, American, and Afro-descendant communities to continue entering spaces where you are not expected, opening paths for those who follow. Never allow others to define or limit your potential. Our presence matters, and our voices must be heard.”

Yacé concluded her statement by extending congratulations to the new Miss Universe and wishing Miss Universe Jamaica a swift recovery. “I deeply appreciate the support I have received and the experiences that have shaped me,” she wrote. “Thank you to all who have been part of this exceptional adventure. IT’S TIME FOR AFRICA.”

Her resignation has already sparked discussions within the pageant world, raising questions about transparency, contestant treatment, and the shifting dynamics in global beauty contests. Yacé’s departure marks a turning point in one of the most turbulent Miss Universe pageants in recent years, with ongoing debates over the integrity of the competition.
