The suspect, identified as Okwuchukwu Ezimuo, was arrested by operatives of the Anambra State Police Command after he reportedly stabbed 65-year-old Joseph Dike in the chest during a heated argument over family land on Monday evening, September 22.
Police reports indicate that the victim collapsed at the scene and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor on duty.
Spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday. He stated that officers from the Nnobi Divisional Headquarters responded swiftly, visiting the crime scene and collecting relevant evidence, including photographs.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect struck the victim during a quarrel. The victim collapsed and was confirmed dead at the hospital. The suspect is currently in custody and under interrogation,” Ikenga said.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has condemned the incident and called on residents to embrace peaceful means of resolving disputes, particularly within families. He has also directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Awka, for a comprehensive investigation.
Authorities continue to urge community leaders and residents to promote dialogue and non-violent conflict resolution methods to prevent further tragedies.
