The Lagos State Police Command has arrested Habeeb Hamzat, a popular TikTok content creator known as Peller, after he livestreamed a distressing video in which he appeared to threaten to crash his car. The 20-year-old TikToker was seen visibly agitated and driving recklessly on Sunday, December 14, which ultimately led to a crash.
The Police Public Relations Officer Abimbola Adebisi confirmed the arrest in a statement released explaining that the livestreamed incident was an apparent suicide attempt that put both Peller and other road users in grave danger.
“The Lagos State Police Command has arrested Habeeb Hamzat, also known as ‘Peller,’ following a viral video that surfaced online on December 14. In the footage, he was seen driving dangerously, resulting in a crash while livestreaming the incident. His actions are believed to be a deliberate attempt to endanger his own life and the lives of others on the road,” the statement read.
The police further revealed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, for further investigation, with plans to bring charges before a court of law.
Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh warned social media influencers against using online platforms to promote dangerous or reckless behavior. “Such lawlessness will not be tolerated, and we will apply the full weight of the law to any offender,” he stated. The statement also urged motorists to strictly adhere to traffic laws.

In addition to the police investigation, the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has announced plans to prosecute Peller for multiple traffic violations, including using a mobile phone while driving. FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed expressed concern over the growing trend of celebrities and influencers engaging in dangerous road behavior for online attention.
“This incident is a stark reminder that fame does not exempt anyone from the law. Public roads are not platforms for livestreaming, and we will not hesitate to enforce the law, regardless of a person’s social status,” Mohammed said in a statement.
The crash occurred shortly after Peller had purchased a 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV on December 6, which he shared on social media. The impact of the crash triggered the vehicle’s airbags, and bystanders rushed to assist before emergency services arrived. Peller was hospitalized, but his medical condition remains undisclosed.
The incident has sparked widespread public debate and concern over the responsibility of content creators who influence large audiences. Additionally, sources suggest that Peller’s personal life may have contributed to his distress. A reported breakup with fellow content creator Jarvis, due to conflicting relationship goals and professional interference, has also been a subject of discussion among fans and followers.
As the investigation continues, authorities have reiterated the importance of responsible social media usage and safe behavior on the road.
