In a statement released by the agency’s spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq, quoted LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, describing the practice as both illegal and a significant security threat.
According to Bakare-Oki, only constitutionally recognised agencies are authorised to handle vehicle registration in Lagos. He stressed that replacing official registration with so-called “union stickers” is a gross violation of existing laws.
“Any vehicle found operating on public roads under the guise of ‘union stickers’ or other unauthorised identifiers will be impounded, and those responsible will face the full weight of the law,” the statement read.

Bakare-Oki noted that the widespread use of unofficial vehicle identifiers compromises law enforcement efforts and endangers public safety.
To address the issue, LASTMA announced plans to intensify surveillance and enforcement efforts in collaboration with security agencies and other relevant bodies.
The LASTMA boss also appealed to transport unions to comply with existing traffic and registration laws, emphasising that proper vehicle registration is not just an administrative requirement but a crucial step in ensuring public safety and security across the state.
