The State’s Police spokesperson, SP Yahaya Suleiman, confirmed the incident to newsmen on Tuesday. He stated that law enforcement officers were promptly deployed to the area and that efforts are ongoing to track down the assailants.

“We received a report that the farmer was attacked on his way back from the farm on Sunday. Our officers visited both the scene and the local health centre, where he was confirmed dead,” Suleiman said.

“The Commissioner of Police immediately deployed personnel, with support from sister agencies and local hunters, to comb the area. We’re committed to restoring calm and ensuring the perpetrators are brought to justice.”

Eyewitnesses said the attackers ambushed and shot Mija before fleeing. A local resident, Boyi Karfe, reportedly discovered the body and alerted authorities.

The farmer’s body has since been deposited at the clinic’s morgue, while investigations continue.

This tragic incident adds to growing concerns about insecurity in rural parts of Nigeria, particularly in farming communities.

Authorities have called for calm in Labau and surrounding communities as the search for Mija’s killers intensifies.
