The correspondence, dated November 6, 2025, was jointly signed by Mohammed and Senator Samuel Anyanwu. The letter requested a postponement of the PDP’s Ekiti State Governorship primary, which had been scheduled for November 8, 2025, due to “logistical reasons.”
The “Postponement of PDP Ekiti State Congress/Governorship Primary,” the letter stated that a new date for the event would be communicated to INEC. The letter read, “We wish to inform you that the PDP Ekiti State Congress and Governorship primary scheduled for November 8, 2025, has been postponed due to logistical reasons constraining this exercise. Kindly refer to our earlier letter to the Commission on this subject matter. Please accept the assurances of my esteemed regards.”
Despite this request, the Ekiti Governorship primary took place as scheduled on November 8, 2025, with Dr. Wole Oluyede emerging as the winner. Oluyede secured 279 votes, defeating his closest competitor, Funso Agent, who garnered 239 votes, and Funmilayo Ogun, who received 17 votes.
However, INEC promptly rejected the request for the postponement. In a letter dated November 10, 2025, and addressed to the PDP National Secretary, the electoral body stated that the submission did not meet the legal requirements outlined in the Electoral Act.
The INEC letter, signed by the Commission’s Secretary, Mrs. Rose Oriaran Anthony, referenced the relevant section of the Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties, 2022, which stipulates that the National Chairman and National Secretary of the party must jointly sign the notice of any convention, congress, or primary and submit it to INEC.

The INEC letter stated, “Your letter on the above subject refers. The Commission draws your attention to the fact that the notice is not in compliance with the requirement of Part 2(12)3 of the Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties, 2022, which provides that the National Chairman and National Secretary of the Party shall jointly sign the notice of convention, congress, conference, or meeting and submit the same to the Commission. Be guided. The Commission hereby informs you that it has rejected your submission for non-compliance with the requirements of the Electoral Act. Thank you.”
This decision effectively invalidates Abdulrahman Mohammed’s position as the acting National Chairman of the PDP, as the party’s internal processes are subject to strict regulatory guidelines under the Electoral Act.
