According to a statement by National Commissioner Sam Olumekun, the court ruled in favour of the SDP in a suit challenging their exclusion due to the party’s failure to submit a valid notice for primaries, which meant their primaries were not monitored by INEC.
In compliance with the court’s directive, INEC has accepted and published the names of the SDP candidates submitted manually. The commission assured voters that the late court decision would not disrupt the election schedule.
INEC also stated it would exercise its legal right to appeal the ruling.
The by-elections span two senatorial districts (Anambra, Edo), five federal constituencies (Edo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Ogun, Oyo), and nine state constituencies (Adamawa, Anambra, Kaduna, Kano, Kogi, Niger, Taraba, Zamfara). Court-ordered re-runs in Enugu and Kano will also hold concurrently.
