In a video shared on his TikTok page, the Ogbomosho-born artist said the move is his way of paying homage to his roots and family tradition.
“By the time I’m 50, I will get the same mark as my dad. That’s what I want to do for my birthday. A lot of my boys said I won’t do that, but you will see,” he declared.
Known for infusing Yoruba language, idioms, and proverbs into his music, 9ice has consistently used his platform to celebrate indigenous culture. This latest decision, he says, is part of a broader personal journey to reconnect with his traditional beliefs.
Tribal marks, once a widespread practice among various Nigerian ethnic groups, serve as symbols of identity, lineage, and cultural pride. Though the practice has declined over the years, some still view it as a way to preserve heritage.
In a candid interview with Nancy Isime in August 2025, 9ice opened up about his spiritual path, revealing he had embraced Ifa traditional worship after surviving a life-threatening illness.
He expressed some regret for not turning to traditional practices earlier in life, underscoring the deepening significance of cultural heritage in his personal and spiritual journey.
As he approaches 50, 9ice seems more determined than ever to honor the past and wear it proudly.
