The Golden Eaglets missed out on a place at the next edition after losing to Ghana in the WAFU B semi-final, ruling them out of both the AFCON and the FIFA U-17 World Cup. It is the second consecutive failure after also missing the last tournament.
Garba argued that WAFU B, home to some of the continent’s strongest youth teams, deserves at least three slots. He described CAF’s allocation as unfair, pointing out Nigeria’s record five U-17 World Cup titles and dominance at the youth level.

Currently, Ghana and Ivory Coast will represent WAFU B at the next U-17 AFCON. Despite having seven member nations, the zone gets fewer slots than other regions such as WAFU A and the North Zone.
