Former Osun Babes and Super Falcons goalkeeper Christy Ohiaeriaku has announced her retirement from professional football, drawing the curtain on a career marked by dedication, resilience, and continental success.
The 29-year-old confirmed her decision in a statement shared on social media, expressing gratitude for her journey in the sport.
“The boots are hung, but the legacy lives on. Thank you for the memories,” she wrote.
Ohiaeriaku enjoyed a distinguished international career, winning the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (WAFCON) twice with the Super Falcons. She was also part of Nigeria’s squad to the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, serving as one of the team’s goalkeepers on the global stage.
At club level, she began her career with Osun Babes, where she quickly rose to become the first-choice goalkeeper during the formative years of the Nigeria Women Premier League. Her consistent performances earned her a move to Rivers Angels, one of the country’s top women’s clubs, before she returned to Osun Babes in 2016.
Ohiaeriaku also featured for Nigeria at youth level, including the country’s campaign at the 2016 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, further underlining her experience across different tiers of international football.
Her retirement marks the end of a significant chapter in Nigerian women’s football, with her contributions at both club and international levels leaving a lasting imprint on the game.
