Captain Daniel Bameyi was the hero, converting a stoppage-time penalty to seal the win after Nigeria twice surrendered their lead.

Aliyu Zubair’s side came into the game needing a response after a frustrating opening loss to Norway, and they got off to a bright start. Nasiru Salihu opened the scoring with a well-placed header from Sani Suleiman’s cross.

However, defensive lapses proved costly. Saudi Arabia equalized after a long ball wasn’t dealt with, allowing Amar Al-Ayuba to sneak in and finish past goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt.

Nigeria restored their lead almost immediately through Amos Ochoche, whose mis-hit cross from a set-piece routine looped into the net. But again, Saudi Arabia leveled early in the second half with another goal from a deep ball, this time converted by Talal Haji.

The Saudis nearly went ahead when a late effort struck the post, but Nigeria’s pressure paid off when a handball in the box gave them a penalty. Bameyi coolly converted to secure a vital win.

With the result, Nigeria climbed to third in Group F with three points, just behind Colombia and Norway. The Flying Eagles face Colombia next in their final group match, needing at least a draw to boost their chances of reaching the Round of 16.
