The commanders identified as Mahmud Usman, also known as Abu Bara’a/Abbas/Mukhtar, and his deputy, Abubakar Abba, also known as Isah Adam/Mahmud Al-Nigeri, popularly called Mallam Mamuda, Mahmud Al-Nigeri will be arraigned alongside Abu Bara’a before justice Wmeka Nwite on a 32 counts charge on terrorism.

According to the court, both men are alleged to have aided and abetted acts of terrorism between 2013 and 2015.

They are also accused of conspiring to become founding members and top commanders of the Jama’atu Ansarul Muslimeena Fii Bilaadis Sudan(JAMBS/Ansaru) a proscribed terrorist organization in Nigeria.

The suspects who were recently arrested during operations by security forces are facing charges bordering on leading a terrorist organisation, financing its activities, recruiting fighters, and coordinating violent attacks across Nigeria.

The Ansaru group has been linked to several high profile attacks and kidnappings across the country, with security officials describing its activities as a major threat to national stability
